主に段ボールで制作したマスクを、約20点展示します。
このシリーズのアイディアは、数年前のハロウィーン・コスチュームです。最初のマスクの出来はあまりよくなかったですが、パピエマシェ、段ボール、紙粘土などの可能性は奥が深いと知り、それ以来、その技術を磨く努力をしてきました。
私の専門は彫刻です。東京の狭い部屋の中でも、段ボールなどを使うことによって、立体造形の探求を続けています。平面の物から立体の物を作り出す難しさが私は好きです。面白くてダイナミックな形の物を好んで選んでいます。複雑な形の物を組み立てるのは、最初、不可能に見えるかもしれませんが、何もないところから、少しずつその形が現れてきます。
About 20 cardboard masks will be exhibited.
The origin of this series of masks came from an idea for a Hallowe'en costume a few years ago. Although that particular mask was crude and badly made, I realized that the possibilities of working with papier-mache, cardboard and paper clay were endless, and have since strived to perfect the technique.
My background is in sculpture, and working with cardboard has allowed me to continue the exploration of 3-D forms within the confines of a small Tokyo apartment. I like the challenge of realizing 2-D shapes in three dimensions, and tend to choose forms with an interesting or dynamic silhouette. Though the construction of a complicated form may seem impossibly difficult at first, little by little, it comes into being.
