2010年より青木涼子（能）は、国際的に活躍する多国籍の作曲家に能の「謡」を素材に用いた作品を委嘱するシリーズ「Noh×Contemporary Music」を主催、今までに16名の作曲家に委嘱してきました。この先進性が世界からも注目を浴び、各地から招待を受け演奏しています。また2014年にはデビューアルバム「能×現代音楽」（ALCD-98）をリリース、高い評価を受けています。
能では伝統的な謡の記譜法が存在しますが、日本語を解し、能の稽古をした人にしか理解するのが難しいものです。本企画では「Noh×Contemporary Music」Vol.4と題し、謡のための新作がより多くの世界の作曲家に開かれるよう、記譜法を日英両方の言語でまとめ、それをウェブにて公開するというプロジェクトを行います。それを元に新曲を委嘱し、2月20日に演奏も含めたシンポジウムを開催します。
今回はアジアへと視点を向けます。2016年が日本・シンガポール外交関係樹立50年ということもあり、シンガポール出身で世界的に活躍している作曲家・ダイアナ・ソウに新曲を委嘱します。またインドネシアに留学し、ジャワ島の伝統芸術に造形が深い作曲家・小出稚子も共にシンポジウム登壇者に迎え、アジアにおける伝統と創造について考察を深めたいと考えています。当日は、ダイアナ・ソウの新曲のほか、2013年に青木涼子のために書かれた小出稚子作曲「恋の回旋曲」も演奏する予定です。

Symposium & Concert "Tradition & Creation in Asia"

From 2010, a Noh performer, Ryoko Aoki, has organised "Noh×Contemporary Music" to commission international composers to write new pieces for Noh voice. So far, she has premiered 16 pieces in this series and she released her debut CD "Noh×Contemporary Music" in 2014. In Noh we have our own traditional notation of Noh chanting, but it is not easy to understand unless you practice Noh. In this project, we explain what is the basis of Noh chanting and how to notate them in both Japanese and English online, in order to share them with composers all over the world. We will commission new piece based on this information, and we will have symposium including premiere on 20 February 2016 in Tokyo. This time we would like to focus on Asian composers. As the year 2016 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Japan-Singapore diplomatic relations, we will commission the Singaporean composer, Diana Soh. We will have a symposium about "Tradition and Creation in Asia" with Dr. Soh and the Japanese composer, Noriko Koide who studied the traditional Javanese Gamelan music at the Institut Seni Indonesia Surakarta. On the day of symposium, we will perform new piece by Dr. Soh and Noriko Koide's "The Rondo of Love" for Noh voice and percussion.
